I have always battled dry itchy skin. Growing up and living in Wisconsin, where the air is cold and dry for 8-9 months out of the year, doesn’t really help.

For me, the commercial lotions just don’t do the trick. The moisture never seems to last.

With winter approaching quickly, I wanted to find a product that will keep my skin feeling smooth and moisturized all day long. I really wanted to find a natural, chemical-free lotion that works well.

I recently found a recipe on Pinterest, a social media site where you can find creative recipes, home decor, fashion styles and more. There are a variety of homemade lotion recipes available on this site. Since I wanted a chemical-free lotion, I decided to give one a try.

To save on cost, I was looking for a recipe needing a small amount of ingredients. I came across the one below.

Homemade Organic Lotion Recipe:

I chose this recipe because I knew Grapeseed Oil is one of the best oils to use when you have dry skin. Plus, it looked easy to make.

The recipe only requires three ingredients: Aloe Vera Gel (1/2 cup), Organic Cocoa Butter (1/2 cup), and Grapeseed Oil (3/4 cup).

Directions:

Cocoa Butter

Using cocoa butter to make your organic lotion. How to make homemade lotion.

1. First, I measured out 1/2 cup cocoa butter and heated it over the stove to soften it until it had a creamy texture.

2. While the coca butter was heating, I poured 1/2 cup Aloe Vera Gel and 3/4 cup Grapeseed Oil into measuring cups.

3. Lastly, I mixed all ingredients together with a blender and poured the lotion into small containers.

There you have it. It that simple and only takes a few minutes to make!

I now use the lotion every day, along with a natural sugar scrub. To make the sugar scrub, I mixed 3/4 cup cane sugar with 1/2 cup coconut oil in a blender. Then I poured the mix into a container to store. Sugar scrub will exfoliate the skin, scrubbing away dead skin cells, while moisturizing. A hot shower can dry out the skin quickly. This sugar scrub will keep skin moisturized.

I was pleased by the outcome of both recipes. After using the sugar scrub and applying the lotion, my skin feels extremely soft and moisturized all day long.
